Audits are usually carried out on either an annual basis or as part of a wider quality assurance process to ensure compliance with mandatory or voluntary standards.

Environmental Audit (EA)

An EA is carried out on site to review a company process and is normally based on the ISO14001 standard. These are carried out by IS014001 trained auditors as part of an internal, pre-external or external audit.

An EA may also involve taking water, surface and air samples to analyse at the laboratory, which will highlight any risk of pollution and microbiological contamination.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

An EIA is a process to identify, predict and evaluate the environmental effect of proposed development. An EIA can be generated via the Town and Country Planning (EIA) Regulations as part of planning permission or be a voluntary process provided to gain a fuller understanding on cumulative effects of a development, such as the socio-economic impacts.EAs and EIAs are carried out by experienced assessors, who hold full and chartered member status of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).

Behaviour Change Assessment

A behavioural change assessment is a specialist review of the way in which building occupants interact with their environment. This uses the principles of behavioural science and environmental phycology to identify where occupants/staff actions can be targeted to reduce energy, waste and pollution within an organisation. These assessments are always carried out by chartered scientists trained in the field of behavioural science and sustainable development.
